Training Program

What is the Academic Life Coaching program?

Academic Life Coaching is a leadership development program specifically for youth and designed to be completed in 10 one-to-one sessions with a certified Academic Life Coach. Throughout the program teens gain an awareness of themselves and others, understand more fully their value and the things they have to offer, as well as learn practical tools to achieve the things most important to them. Youth have incredible amounts of untapped potential and the added backdrop of coming from a hard place means that when properly cultivated, these at-risk teens, foster youth and orphans have incredible potential to be caring, flexible and transparent leaders.

For Those Working With Foster Youth. . .

Why consider the Academic Life Coaching youth program as a new approach or complimentary addition to Independent Living Skills?

Each individual has something unique to offer. This program is tailored to tap into those unique abilities and train youth to create internal structures that will give them greater vision for their future and resilience to keep moving forward in the midst of life’s obstacles.

Current Independent Living Skills classes tend to focus on external skills teens need to master. The Academic Life Coaching program focuses on an internal skill set that will enable teens to take ownership of their decisions and choices for their future. Throughout the program youth will build internal structures to move toward various educational goals, career aspirations, relational desires, and they will also begin to develop a vision for giving back to their communities.

  • The [ALC coach training] experience was deep, intense and useful to me both personally and professionally.  While I see it as a valuable part of my work, I transformed my perspectives for the better personally through this training experience.  Brenda was a gentle and knowledgeable guide through the entire process. I would not hesitate to recommend her as a trainer or a coach.  She truly lives and practices in a way that aligns with her values.
